Rockfield Medical Devices was founded in 2014 by Tomás Thompson to address an unmet need for people using tube feeding. Our team understands that current feeding systems are complex, inconvenient and a burden on users daily lives. We are developing a range of innovative tube feeding products that can improve mobility and the ability to take part in social activities and normal family life.

Founder & CEO
Tomás has a proven ability in leadership and business development in the SME sector, a strong R&D background, and over 15 years’ experience working in the healthcare industry. Tomás understands the need for user-friendly, mobile enteral feeding systems, so life can carry on as normal. He has built a strong team at Rockfield Medical Devices to develop an innovative tube feeding system and a pipeline of products for the global tube feeding devices market. Tomás has a degree in Business and Education from Galway-Mayo Institute of Technology and an MSc from Ulster University.
Senior Design Engineer
Donal’s work includes research, design, testing and prototyping. He holds a degree in Product Design and Innovation from the Institute of Technology, Carlow, and an MSc in Medical Device Design from the National College of Art & Design. Donal has worked in many multinationals in the Medical Device industry.
Head of R&D
John Kelly leads the device development activities in Rockfield Medical Devices. John has over 25 years’ experience in the medical devices arena. In this time, he has worked in technical leadership roles in several device companies including start-ups, and multinationals. As well as working on the development of a wide variety of innovative medical devices, he has also developed more effective R&D infrastructures, including improved product design and test capabilities. John has a Degree in Mechanical Engineering and a Masters in Computer Aided Engineering.
Senior Research Manager
Edel’s responsibilities include clinical research, managing KOLs, marketing, communications, funding and commercialisation. She holds a BSc in Nutritional Sciences from University College Cork, and a PhD from Ulster University. Edel has over 15 years of experience in scientific roles including in public health agencies, multinationals and start-ups.
Co-ordinator Grants & Projects
Margaret is the Grants and Projects Coordinator at Rockfield Medical Devices. Margaret Has spent the last five years managing a EU Horizon 2020 coordination and support action. She holds a PhD from Instituto Superior Técnico de Lisboa, Portugal and a Master’s degree from the University of Aberystwyth, Wales UK and a Bachelor of Science Honours degree from University College Dublin. Margaret also has a Diploma in Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Technology from Trinity College Dublin leading to Qualified Person status.
Eoin’s work includes product testing and developing the e-connected element of Rockfield Medical Devices’ tube feeding system. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Computer & Electronic Engineering from the Galway Mayo Institute of Technology. Eoin is skilled in Java, C, PCB design, low level programming and Linux.
Senior Development Engineer
Jason has 10 years product development experience in the medical device space having worked in multiple start-ups. Jason is named inventor on a number of patents in the neurovascular space as a result of conceiving, prototyping and bench testing devices for clot retrieval. He has also worked on achieving CE mark, FDA approval and commercial launch of a flagship stent.
Jason completed the BioInnovate fellowship in 2019 having focused on finding unmet clinical needs in the Orthopaedic area. Jason was attracted to Rockfield Medical Devices by the opportunity to make a meaningful difference to quality of life of the greater than 1 million patients who rely on daily tube feeding for their survival.
Gareth is involved with Project Management at Rockfield Medical Devices. He is a Medical Device Engineering professional with a degree in Electronics Engineering and over 20 years R&D, Product/Process Development and Manufacturing experience.
He has a demonstrated track record of success in both the multinational and start up environment and has strong technical, management and project management skills with the ability to build teams and businesses that deliver stakeholder value.
Grant Project Co-ordinator
Anna is responsible for all grant related activities in Rockfield Medical Devices with additional responsibility in the areas of finance, human resources, and office management. She has over 20 years’ experience in the Medical Device, Pharma and Software Dev industry having worked in many start-ups and multinationals. Her background is in Human Resources, with a strong track record in relationship building, negotiation/mediation, and staff development. She has a Dip in Management & Industrial Relations along with a Dip in Psychology.
Quality and Regulatory Affairs Manager
Tom leads the Quality and Regulatory Affairs activities and provides
support for design assurance and clinical affairs. Tom has 30 years’
experience in the medical device industry spanning a broad variety of
medical devices in all classes I, II and III, including 10 years’
experience with enteral delivery products. Working with start-ups and
multinational companies, Tom has led the process of gaining global
regulatory approvals for multiple medical devices. Tom has also led
organizations in developing quality systems compliant with FDA, ISO
13485 and other global quality system requirements throughout his
career. Tom earned his MBA from the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul
MN and holds the RAC accreditation through the Regulatory Affairs
Professionals Society (RAPS)
Thomas is the Operations Manager at Rockfield Medical Devices and is responsible for managing the outsourcing of manufacturing and supply chain. He has over 15 years International Experience in high volume Manufacturing Environments, including medical devices and has led engineering teams and business units in both start up and established businesses. Thomas holds a degree in Polymer Engineering from the Athlone Institute of Technology
Electronic Design Engineer
Oisin’s work includes developing the e-connected, power management, data and sensory elements of Rockfield’s tube feeding systems. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from the National University of Ireland Galway. Oisin is skilled in Java, C, PCB Design, Power Systems, App Development and CAD.
