Rockfield Medical Devices along with their consortium partners are proud to announce that they have been awarded €2 Million from the Disruptive Technologies Innovation Funding (DTIF) run by the Department of Enterprise Trade and Employment and administered by Enterprise Ireland.

With this funding Rockfield Medical Devices and its partners are developing an innovative healthcare solution for people that require enteral feeding: the direct supply of nutrition into the gastrointestinal tract.

“Patients are now looking for wearable devices to provide real-time data for better quality of life” commented Tomás Thompson, CEO, Rockfield Medical Devices. The Mobility+ system being developed leverages innovation in sensors, a new innovative feed delivery device design, connectivity, and apps for an entirely new level of data-driven patient-centred care. The project will develop the feeding system to a high level of technological readiness, demonstrating its operational utility in industrially relevant applications.

The project consortium consists of two Galway based organisations: Rockfield Medical Devices Ltd and the Medical and Engineering Technologies (MET) Gateway, based at Galway-Mayo Institute of Technology, along with Steripack Ireland located in Westmeath.

The consortium partners bring expertise in: Product design and commercialisation; State-of-the-art manufacturing; and Materials and sensor development. Rockfield Medical Devices, an innovative Medical Device company and the lead partner in the consortium, bring exceptional product design, project management and commercialisation expertise to the project. SteriPack Ireland brings extensive expertise in contract manufacturing and is the partner-of-choice for the world’s medical device, pharmaceutical, and allied healthcare industries offering a complete supply chain solution, initial concept to finished product. GMIT’s Medical and Engineering Technologies (MET) Gateway, an inter-disciplinary research centre committed to supporting research, development, and innovation in the MedTech and Lifesciences sectors, brings expertise in polymers and sensor development.

Commenting on the project, Vice President of Research and Innovation at GMIT, Dr Rick Officer said “GMIT is delighted to partner with Rockfield Medical Devices and SteriPak Ireland on this important and innovative project. We are delighted to continue our collaboration with Rockfield Medical Devices, a company located in GMIT’s business

Innovation Hub, and to build strong ties with SteriPak Ireland. The project team in GMIT’s MET Centre are really excited about developing cutting-edge technologies. Together with our project partners we look forward to delivering novel connected health solutions that will revolutionise the future of enteral feeding”.
